Adding acupressure to conventional treatment can significantly reduce menopausal symptoms, report Iranian researchers. Seventy menopausal subjects were randomly assigned to receive either verum or sham acupressure for 15 minutes, three times per week for four weeks. Verum acupressure was delivered at Shenmen HE-7 and Sanyinjiao SP-6 using wristbands with pressure buttons on the inside; in the sham treatment the bands were turned inside out. All patients also received conventional menopause care. The findings showed that acupressure led to a reduction in the number and severity of hot flushes, the number of night sweats and state anxiety, but had no effect on  the severity of night sweats and trait anxiety.
