Acupuncture has a similar effect to conventional treatment for chronic neck pain, conclude the Japanese authors of a systematic review. Fourteen RCTs were selected for meta-analysis. The results showed that acupuncture has similar effectiveness for reducing pain and disability as conventional treatment (CT). When acupuncture was added onto CT, the combination resulted in greater pain relief, and electro-acupuncture plus CT was found to be the most effective combination.
