Acupuncture is effective for the treatment of obesity, concludes a Chinese systematic review that analysed 11 RCTs with 643 participants. The results of the meta-analysis showed that reductions in body mass index (BMI) before and after treatment with both auricular and electro-acupuncture were significantly higher than for sham controls. The pooled analysis also showed that acupuncture resulted in significant reductions in body fat mass, waist circumference and hip circumference in obese patients.
