A small study carried out in Korea provides preliminary data on the efficacy of acupuncture for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD) symptoms. In a randomised, sham-controlled preliminary trial, 30 participants for mild-to-moderate AD were allocated to three arms; verum acupuncture (VA) three times per week, VA twice per week, or sham acupuncture, with a four-week intervention period and a four-week follow-up. Atopic dermatitis/eczema scores, itching, insomnia and quality of life were all significantly improved in both VA groups (with no significant difference between them).
