A large cohort study from Taiwan suggests that having acupuncture lowers the risk of depression following stroke. A total of 8487 newly-diagnosed stroke patients were included in the study. After controlling for potential confounders, the authors found that acupuncture significantly reduced the risk of post-stroke depression by an estimated 52.5 per cent in frequent users (more than five sessions) and 28.2 per cent in less frequent users (one to five sessions).
