Electro-acupuncture (EA) combined with routine care can reduce spasticity and improve function following stroke, concludes a systematic review from China. Twenty-two trials involving 1,425 participants were analysed. The estimated additional effects of EA on reducing spasticity in the upper limb and improving overall motor function were significant. Significant add-on effects of EA were also shown for spasticity in the lower limb, lower-limb motor function and activities of daily living.
