A Cochrane database systematic review assessing acupuncture for stroke rehabilitation has concluded that its effects in reducing death or improving neurological and movement scores, as reported in trials comparing acupuncture with any control, were not seen in trials comparing acupuncture with sham acupuncture. The authors included 33 RCTs with 3946 participants of which six trials (668 participants) compared acupuncture with sham acupuncture. The quality of the available evidence was rated as low or very low.
