Since making a cup of tea is clearly too much effort, there is a growing fashion for bottled green tea ($1 billion annual sales in the US), often drunk for its supposed health-giving properties. However a study reported at the 240th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS) in Boston, Massachusetts has found that bottled tea contains fewer polyphenols than one cup of home-made green or black tea and some even contain such small quantities that you would have to drink 20 bottles to obtain the polyphenols present in one cup of tea.
