Feiwei granules (FGs) can improve lung function in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), according to Chinese research. One hundred patients with IPF were allocated to a treatment group or a control group. Both groups received basic treatment with prednisone. The treatment group was given FGs, which consist of Xi Yang Shen (Radix Panacis Quinquefolii), San Qi (Radix Notoginseng), Shan Zhu Yu (Fructus Macrocarpii), Wu Wei Zi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis), Zi Wan (Radix Asteris Tatarici), Mai Men Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis Japonici), Bai Guo (Semen Ginkgo) and Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), while the control group was given Jinshuibao capsules (JCs), containing Dong Chong Xia Cao (Cordyceps). Treatment lasted for 6 months. The results showed that FGs improved dyspnoea and respiratory health scores, lung function tests and six-minute walk test scores in IPF patients. The results for FGs were similar to those for JCs.
