Acupuncture is effective for patients with fibromyalgia (FM) according to a systematic review of twelve RCTs by Chinese authors. They found that real acupuncture was more effective than sham acupuncture in relieving pain and improving the quality of life, in both the short and long term. Both electro-acupuncture and manual acupuncture were better than sham acupuncture in relieving pain in the short term. Acupuncture was also shown to be more effective in relieving pain in both the short and long term, compared with conventional medication.
