In a study of 1900 patients hospitalised with confirmed acute myocardial infarction between 1989 and 1994, with a median follow-up of 3.8 years, it was found that there was a significant reduction in long-term mortality among moderate tea drinkers (those who drank less than 14 cups a week compared with those who drank no tea), a benefit that was further increased among heavy tea drinkers (more than 14 cups a week) (Circulation 105: 2476-2481).
