Basal body temperature (BBT) charting is frequently employed in the holistic treatment of infertility. However, the use of BBT for fertility prediction is limited by accuracy and interpretation. Given its limits, should practitioners still recommend patients use BBT charting when trying to attain pregnancy? In this article we present ways of using BBT charting to improve clinical performance by identifying diagnostic patterns within the framework of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Additionally, this paper explores and analyses the correlations between TCM yin/yang theory, BBT and functional sex hormones across the menstrual cycle, and identifies the ideal cycle conditions for conception.
