There are six different recognised lineages explaining the teachings of Zhang Zhong Jing’s classical text Shang Han Za Bing Lun (usually translated as the Canon on Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases), which was written in the Han Dynasty. In the author’s lineage, the teachings come from the Imperial doctor Wang Xiang Zheng (王祥徵, sometimes called Wang Xiang Wei, 王祥微), who passed down his knowledge to Professor Hu Xi Shu at the beginning of the 20th century, who later passed it down to Dr. Feng Shi Lun, who in turn passed it down to the author. In contrast to common belief, the classical system of the Shang Han Za Bing Lun can treat internal and external diseases, acute and chronic disorders as well as cold and hot afflictions. In this article, we review the treatment of stubborn and complex male disorders.
