Acupressure enhances sexual health in women taking SSRIs

Acupressure may offer a non-invasive approach to enhancing sexual health in women taking selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), improving their quality of life and treatment adherence. A research team from Iran conducted a trial involving 115 women with antidepressant-induced sexual dysfunction, who were randomly assigned to either an intervention group, which received acupressure at Neiguan P-6 and Sanyinjiao SP-6, or a control group, which received acupressure at two placebo points. Treatment was administered twice weekly over two months. Sexual function was evaluated using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) at baseline and after the eight-week treatment period. The results showed that the acupressure group experienced significant improvements in desire, orgasm intensity, satisfaction and overall sexual function scores compared with the control group.
