Acupuncture best for fibromyalgia
Acupuncture shows significant advantages over other treatment modalities for the management of fibromyalgia symptoms, according to a systematic review carried out by an international author team. Data from 23 studies with 1409 participants were analysed by network meta-analysis. Compared with sham/placebo, acupuncture showed a significant effect in reducing pain, depression and improving quality of life, while physiotherapy showed a significant improvement in quality of life only. By contrast, intravenous lidocaine and dietary therapy showed no significant differences when compared with sham/placebo.
