Acupuncture can reduce angina symptoms

Acupuncture can be used as an adjunctive therapy to reduce symptoms associated with chronic stable angina pectoris (CSAP). Seven trials involving 893 subjects were included in a systematic review carried out by Chinese authors. Meta-analysis results showed that acupuncture combined with standard care was more effective in relieving CSAP-associated anxiety and depression, as well as reducing angina attack frequency and pain intensity of attacks, than either sham acupuncture plus standard care, or standard care alone. The effects of acupuncture remained significant at 16 weeks post-treatment.
